Russian-german youth science school "Geology, geodynamics and dangerous geological processes of the Baikal region"

From 15 to 25 August, the Institute of the Earth's Crust of SB RAS (IEC, SB RAS, Irkutsk), together with the Ruhr University (Ruhr-Universität, Bochum, Germany), will hold a russian-german youth science school "Geology, geodynamics and dangerous geological processes of the Baikal region (asian part of Russia)". Students, professors and young scientists of the Ruhr University and the Institute of the Earth's Crust of SB RAS will take part in this school.

Within the framework of the science school, reports highlighting the history of the forming the largest geological structures of the asian part of Russia will be listen. The Ol'khon geodynamic polygon (the Baikal region), its geological structure and geodynamic evolution will be presented in detail, also modern methods of the exploring structures using data of the Earth remote sensing and by means of detailed structural and geological studies will be shown. The main attention will be paid to the studies of the Baikal rift system, questions of the recent geodynamics, the seismicity, the processes in the fault zones, the field and the experimental methods of their exploration. The emphasis will be put on the researching the hazardous geological processes, studies of the underground hydrosphere, grounds, permafrost rocks and geoecology of the Baikal region.

A field excursion will be carried out within the scientific school, visit of including geological objects of the Ol'khon geodynamic polygon (the Baikal region, Ol'khon district of the Irkutsk area) and Tunka rift basin (Republic of Buryatia). During the excursion, field lectures will be organized to demonstrate the ways of the usage of the equipment and the research methods of the geological objects in situ.

The language of the school is English.
